The modular clamping System for large part manufacturing

Delphin, System 3R’s modular clamping system for flexible manufacturing, which has over 90% market share in Japan mould-die and precision part sector, has ventured into the large part manufacturing with Delphin BIG.

The modular Delphin BIG zero-point clamping System allows the machine table to be equipped with position determining chucks.
Delphin BIG allows the workpiece to be clamped outside the machine, thus offering major cost savings from reduced set-up times and enhanced flexibility.

Positioning tolerance for the DELPHIN BIG chucks onto the machine table and also the positioning tolerance of the bushing-cups/rings under the fixture plates effect the repetition accuracy. Therefore the tolerance between the chucks and the bushings must be less than +/- 0.02 mm.

Open and release of the chucks generated by hydraulic power of 50 bar. The clamping and holding force is mechanical in order to ensure the System safe from accidents or breakage.
The holding force of unique chuck is 5 tons.

In the case of non-symmetrical workpieces, it is frequently the case that they cannot be lifted straight. This inclined position may create major problems. But this is not the case on DELPHIN BIG. The conical shape on top of the chucks is very suitable for guiding, lifting and soft landing of the large workpieces, and also very ideal for chip clearance.

Besides that, 3 mm safe-distance, called lift-off function; keeps the chuck and the bushing 3 mm away from each other before clamping. This useful wisdom keeps away friction and wear-out of the precised parts on the items.

The positioning of the bushing cups/rings under the workpieces or the fixture plates has large tolerance of +/- 0.4 mm, thanks to the straight geometry on the touch surface of the bushings.

The bushings also have 20 mm pins on the top, which are ground concentric to the inner conics, help them to mount under the workpieces or the fixture plates.
